Latest products from Newpro

With ‘Focus on Imaging 2008’ just round the corner, we would like to take this opportunity to let you know about the new products which will be added to the Newpro product range shortly. Some will be available from stock before Focus and examples of others will be showcased at Focus for delivery in March.

All featured products are already on the relevant parts of the Newpro website www.newprouk.co.uk and direct links will be provided below. This is an information only website, and NOT a selling website.

We have taken the opportunity to re-vamp the Op/Tech page of the website http://www.newprouk.co.uk/optech.htm and the straps, pouches and other accessories are now grouped in the relevant categories for the use they were designed for. We hope that this will benefit both you and your customers and make products easier and quicker to find.

New Op/Tech products.

Listed under the ‘Straps for SLR & DSLR cameras’ you will find the new Envy Strap and the SLR Wrist Strap. Click here for more information.

The Super Classic Strap, listed under both this category and also now under the ‘full size binocular straps’ category, is now available in a version without quick-release connectors which makes it ideal for use with heavy binoculars and allows a rainguard to be used. The new code is OCWB30 and is the same retail price as the other two versions - £17.95.

Listed under the ‘Lens Protection’ heading, you will find the new Lens Sleeves. These are designed to protect standard-type lenses between 3” and 6” in length and can be combined with the Hood Hats for all-round protection. Click here for more information.

The Laptop Computer Sleeves are now available for screen sizes ranging from 8” up to and including 17”. Click here for more information.

New Cullmann Products

Cullmann have added a new range of ball & socket and 3-way tripod heads to their range. Called MAGNESIT, they can be fixed to any tripod leg set or monopod with a ¼” or 3/8” thread. They represent a very good price to performance ratio, and more details and product specs can be found here by clicking on the first link you get to. Click here for more information.

New Perfect Pixs Product

After a very good uptake of the product range as a whole, we were asked many times for a true ‘pocket sized’ 3-tone card. Perfect Pixs were quick to react to this and we are very pleased to be able to offer the product now!! Full details can be found by clicking here and scrolling down to the first Perfect Pixs product box. Click here for more information.

New Hoodman Products

With digital camera LCD screens getting ever bigger, Hoodman have increased their range of viewing Loupes to include a 3” Loupe. The existing 2.5” Loupe is now £59.99 and the new 3” Loupe will have an RRP of £69.99. We hope to be able to showcase the 3” Loupe at Focus.

The new Nikon D300 will soon have a Hoodman Flip-Up Cap available for it (showcased at Focus and available in March), and the new D3 will have a clear protective screen available with the same time conditions.

HoodEYEs were shown for the first time at PMA in Las Vegas last week, and have been designed to replace a DSLR’s current eyepiece surround and fit around the user’s face to eliminate the majority of stray light that can cause internal reflections while using the viewfinder. We hope to have these on show at Focus and they should be available in March. RRP will be £24.99. They will be available in the fittings listed on the website.

For more information about the Hoodman products above (D3 protective screen details to be added soon), please click here and then click on the relevant box.

EIZO Unveil ColorEdge® CG301W 30" Widescreen Monitor

The latest edition to the EIZO ColorEdge LCD range, the CG301W will be unveiled at this years Focus on Imaging Exhibition on EIZO’s stand C3. The 30-inch LCD includes several high-end features such as a wide colour gamut, 12-bit hardware calibration, and picture-by-picture suitable for a wide range of professional graphics applications such as digital photography and soft proofing.

The ColorEdge CG301W employs a wide gamut LCD panel that is 100% vs. NTSC and

reproduces 97% of the Adobe RGB colour space. This wide gamut is essential for soft proofing because Adobe RGB encompasses colour spaces used in printing such as ISO-coated and US Web-coated.

EIZO calibrates each unit of the ColorEdge CG301W at its factory in Japan by measuring every tone from 0 – 255 to produce a gamma curve of 2.2. Furthermore, for reliable colour output on the customer side, the CG301W offers hardware calibration. Thus, the monitor itself is calibrated rather than the computer’s graphics board as is the case with software calibration. This ensures no colour tones are lost in the calibration process.

EIZO’s ColorNavigator calibration software is bundled with the CG301W and allows users to set the values for brightness, white point, and gamma. ColorNavigator works with a measurement device to directly utilize the monitor’s 12-bit look-up table for hardware calibration in less than five minutes. When calibration is complete the settings can be saved as an ICC profile. ColorNavigator can also be used to emulate a colour space or colour characteristics of another monitor, meaning the CG301W can accurately reproduce how colour is displayed in the narrower sRGB colour space, which is often used for taking photographs or colour matching with other devices whereas other wide gamut monitors usually cannot.

The native resolution is 2560 × 1600 (16:10 aspect ratio). Dual DVI-D inputs are included for connecting to two PCs. A picture-by-picture function divides the screen into two equal halves, essentially offering two 1200 × 1600 monitors with no centre

bezel. Input from two different computers such as a Windows and a Macintosh can be displayed which makes it possible to work on two tasks simultaneously without having to toggle back and forth. One input supports dual link for displaying images up to the monitor’s native resolution of 2560 × 1600, and the other input is single link for images up to 1920 × 1200. The single link input supports HDCP equipped devices.

The ColorEdge CG301W comes equipped with EIZO’s latest ASIC (Application Specific

Integrated Circuit). The ASIC has a 12-bit look-up table with a total colour palette of 68.1 billion colors from which the most appropriate 16.7 million are selected. It also features 16-bit internal processing for smooth display of greyscale tones, which brings out details, especially in dark areas of an image. Furthermore, the ASIC includes a Digital Uniformity Equalizer function that corrects the brightness and chroma uniformity errors that are characteristic of LCD panels and cause an object to appear brighter and more saturated in the centre of the screen than along the edges.

As with all other EIZO monitor the CG301W comes with the EIZO Five year standard warranty instilling peace of mind for all users.

Delkin introduces innovative award winning products

Delkin Devices unveiled two DIMA award winning products and seven other new products at the PMA 2008 show in Las Vegas,. Delkin was awarded its first DIMA award of 2008 for their new ImageRouter, a four slot CompactFlash reader that enables you to transfer images to your computer from four cards at once. The second DIMA award was given to Delkin for their innovative Dual Universal Battery Charger that charges any two batteries at the same time. Delkin introduced new products in all of its product categories from sensor cleaning, Archival Gold media, memory, power, and accessories.

“It is always exciting when you win awards for your products,” says Eric Richter, Marketing Manager. “However, our mission is to create imaginative products that make photography better. The ImageRouter and Dual Universal Charger make photography better by saving huge amounts of time in the photographer’s workflow.”

ImageRouter

Delkin’s DIMA Award winning ImageRouter is a CompactFlash UDMA enabled card reader that offers professional photographers a complete file import system to improve workflow efficiency.  ImageRouter, a four-slot, USB 2.0 CompactFlash UDMA card reader with a built-in powered hub, simultaneously transfers data from four CF cards to a PC with the optional BackupandBurn software. The ImageRouter was designed to allow for “daisy chaining” multiple units.  This means that multiple ImageRouters can be connected for downloading many cards at once. The BackupandBurn software allows you to import images from multiple cards and archive them to a CD or DVD.  The ImageRouter is also sold separately for use with your current file import and management system. The ImageRouter will be available in late March, 2008.

Dual Universal Charger

Delkin’s new Dual Universal Battery Charger was honored with the 2008 DIMA award for outstanding design and innovation.  This unique charger for digital camera batteries combines universal compatibility among battery models with the ability to charge two batteries simultaneously.  The need for a charger that can recharge two batteries of different models, voltages and even chemical composition at the same time has sprung up from the growth and development in the digital camera market.  Delkin’s Dual Universal Battery Charger is a single, two sided charger that uses individual charging plates specific to each camera battery, so it can charge almost any digital camera battery model.  Since Delkin’s charger and charging plates are purchased separately, each buyer can customize the charger to his or her own needs.  Anyone who subsequently upgrades his or her camera equipment and needs to charge a new battery model can simply purchase the additional charging plate for a fraction of the cost of a new charger. Delkin’s Dual Universal Battery Charger is available now for $59.99 with two charging plates.

SensorScope System – New and Improved

Photography’s most acclaimed sensor cleaning kit is now better than ever! The SensorVac is sturdier & more powerful, the SensorSafe Wands are made of a more absorbent and non-fibrous material and the SensorSolution is an enhanced quick drying and more effective dust removing formula.  The SensorScope, with these improvements, is by far the safest and most effective system for cleaning any digital SLR image sensor. The new and improved SensorScope system will be shipping in early March, 2008.

Snug-it Pro

Snug-it Pro camera skins provide complete protection for digital SLR cameras.  Heavy duty for heavy use, they are custom molded for a glove-like fit and come with a hard plastic cover to protect the LCD.  All buttons, dials, sensors and compartments are carefully molded over and around for a completely functional and rugged skin.  Thicker silicone provides added protection and ridges molded into the skin allow for a better grip.  Whether you are a professional photographer or a first-time digital SLR buyer, Snug-it Pro skins are perfect for anyone looking for complete camera protection. Snug-It Pro’s will begin shipping in late March, and will be available for the Canon Digital Rebel Xti, Canon 40D, and Nikon D40.

ExpressCard SSD – 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB

The Delkin ExpressCard SSD is the perfect solution for laptop users looking for reliable storage. It utilizes the PCI-E controller in the ExpressCard host and boasts transfer speeds over 45 MB/s. Solid State Drives are more reliable than traditional hard drives as they have no moving parts. The Delkin ExpressCard SSD is compatible will all laptops that have an ExpressCard 34 or 54 slot and works with Windows XP and Vista as well as Mac OS 10.4 and above. The Delkin ExpressCard SSD will be available in early March of 2008 and will be available in capacities of 4GB, 8GB and 16GB.

16GB CompactFlash UDMA & 16GB SDHC

Delkin’s Pro line of memory cards offers speed and reliability, making sure that you won’t miss a shot. The new 16GB CompactFlash UDMA cards boosts screaming fast read/write speeds—up to 305x (45MB/sec sustained transfer speed capability). Now photographers using UDMA enabled cameras such as the Canon 1Ds Mark III, Nikon D300 and Nikon D3X have a memory card that can maximize the full benefits of their camera investment. The Delkin SDHC Pro 16GB Class 6 cards offer maximum storage and speed. Many new digital SLRs and HD video cameras take SDHC cards now. When shooting in RAW in your digital SLR or HD in your video camera, you will need a large card to store all your images and footage. The CF Pro UDMA 16GB and SDHC Pro 16GB Class 6 cards are available.

Pop-Up Shade Canon 40D

Delkin’s popular Pop-Up Shade line has been expanded again to include Professional and Standard shades for the Canon 40D digital SLR.  Delkin’s Pop-Up Shades are custom-made for each camera and attach to the existing eye piece and slots around the display.  The shades block glare indoors and outdoors and include a piece of hard plastic to protect the LCD against damage.  The Professional shade covers most buttons on the back of the camera to reduce wear.  Convenient and easy to use, Pop-Up Shades are a must-have accessory. The Canon 40D Pop-Up Shades are available now.

Canon expands professional EF lens range with two new telephoto ‘L’ models

EF200mm f/2L IS USM

EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM

Canon has unveiled two new professional EF lenses: the EF200mm f/2L IS USM and EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM. Equipped with Canon’s latest 4-stop Image Stabilizer, both models incorporate L-series lens optics and construction to deliver class-leading performance and operability.

With its large f/2 aperture, the EF200mm f/2L IS USM will appeal to photographers who require a brighter lens for indoor sports and portraiture photography. Improvements over the EF200mm f/1.8L USM include a fluorite lens element for better elimination of chromatic aberrations, a circular aperture diaphragm and a significantly lighter, more compact design.

The EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM enhances Canon’s super telephoto range with the longest focal distance of any EF lens on the market. Light enough to allow for handheld shooting, it is expected to be popular with sports, news and wildlife photographers.

Benefiting from UD and fluorite lens elements along with a raft of new optical technologies, both lenses offer professional photographers an exceptional degree of image quality – as standalone lenses and when combined with the Canon EF 1.4x extender.

Key features:

  • EF200mm f/2L IS USM :
  • 4-stop Image Stabilizer with 2 modes
  • 1 x fluorite and 2 x UD lens elements
  • Ring type USM auto focus with fulltime manual override
  • Circular aperture diaphragm for pleasing background blur
  • Supra Spectra coatings to reduce ghosting and flare
  • Magnesium alloy body – 2.52kg
  •
  • EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM:
  • 4-stop Image Stabilizer with 2 modes
  • 2 x fluorite, 1 x UD and 1 x super UD lens elements
  • Ring type USM auto focus with fulltime manual override
  • Circular aperture diaphragm for pleasing background blur
  • Supra Spectra coatings to reduce ghosting and flare
  • Magnesium alloy body – 4.5kg
  •
  • Both lenses feature environmental seals to protect against dust, rain and humidity.
  •
  • Pricing & Availability
  •
  • The EF200mm f/2L IS USM will be available from April 2008 priced at £4499.99 RRP inc. VAT / €6659.99 RRP inc. VAT
  •
  • The EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM will be available from June 2008 priced at £8999.99 RRP inc. VAT / €13299.99 inc. VAT

Image Stabilizer

The 4 stop Image Stabilizer (IS) significantly extends the low light performance of both lenses. Photographers normally shooting handheld at 1/1000 sec can switch on IS to obtain a similarly steady and blur-free result with a shutter speed of just 1/60 second. For shooting immobile subjects, Mode 1 corrects for movement in the image along both the horizontal and vertical axes. For shooting while panning horizontally to follow a moving subject, Mode 2 turns off vertical correction and prevents the effect of dragging the subject back through the frame.

IS switches off automatically when the camera is mounted on a tripod, thus preventing feedback loops between the IS sensor and internal motor vibrations.

L-series optics

Both lenses incorporate a newly designed optical system that limits lens size while improving image clarity over the total image area. A combination of fluorite, UD (Ultra-Low Dispersion) and Super UD glass elements are used to eliminate the secondary chromatic aberrations that otherwise reduce sharpness and introduce colour fringing. Canon’s patented Super Spectra lens element coatings reduce reflections off lens surfaces, ensuring undistorted images with natural colour balance and minimal ghosting or flare.

Lightweight design
The lenses employ magnesium alloy components to significantly reduce weight and size. The EF200mm f/2L IS USM has the lightest body in its class, weighing only 2.52 kg. Despite its longer focal length, the EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM is a similar length to the EF600mm f/4L IS USM at 461mm, but weighs 860g lighter. In keeping with Canon’s Kyosei philosophy of living in harmony with the environment, the lenses feature only lead-free glass.

Superb operability
Several features are incorporated to assist photographers in the field. The AF stop button at the front of each lens allows photographers to temporarily turn off auto focus. The button can be configured to control AF mode, IS, and AE lock with the EOS 40D, EOS 5D, EOS-1D Mark III and EOS-1Ds Mark III The EF200mm f/2L IS USM and EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM also feature a focus preset function that electronically memorised a user-selected focus position – particularly helpful for sports or wildlife photographers.

Hasselblad H-Care eases the pain for Pro Centre

Photographic rental companies like their shelves to be empty; it usually means their stock is out on hire. Following a raid by an armed gang though, London rental company, Pro Centre, found its shelves cleared of a large proportion of the company's Hasselblad H-System rental stock - though thankfully not the H3DII digital cameras which were out on rental! While this could have had disastrous consequences for Pro Centre's business, fortunately the company had registered the camera bodies under Hasselblad's H-Care programme so the 15 H2 bodies that were stolen, which are no longer available to purchase new, can still be replaced under the H-care scheme. Pro Centre will, therefore, be able to continue renting H2 cameras to photographers who require them.

Simon Barnard, Managing Director, Hasselblad UK, commented: "Thefts of this kind are, thankfully, very unusual and in this case I am most relieved that no-one was seriously hurt. However, losing so much equipment could potentially have had disastrous commercial consequences. Fortunately, due to Hasselblad's commitment to supporting existing H-System customers through the H-Care programme, owners of H-System cameras are not left 'out in the cold' if disaster should strike.

In the meantime, we would ask that if anyone is offered any Hasselblad H-System equipment under suspicious circumstances, please check the serial numbers with Pro Centre on +44 (0)20 7490 3122 or at www.procentre.co.uk."

Full details of the H-Care programme can be found on www.hasselblad.com.

Accurate, affordable desktop colour viewing – the new GrafiLite

Colour Confidence launch portable natural light solution

Birmingham, UK, 30 th January 2008 – Leading colour management specialist Colour Confidence has today announced the launch of the Colour Confidence GrafiLite. A brand new, cost-effective lighting solution for the photography market, GrafiLite delivers natural lighting for accurate colour and image assessment in a conveniently compact package. Priced at just £60 inc. VAT, the GrafiLite is the ideal way for photographers to ensure they evaluate their images under correct, consistent viewing conditions and present accurate final prints to clients. Full details are available at www.grafilite.com.

Designed for desktop use, the GrafiLite boasts a small footprint and folds down for easy storage. Colour Confidence supply the GrafiLite with a neutral viewing mat, providing a surface for image viewing which will not affect the appearance of colours – meaning the colour of your desktop will not prejudice image assessment. The lamp surround is designed in a neutral grey for the same reason.

The importance of accurate lighting to colour assessment is becoming increasingly recognised in the photographic industry. Advice from the colour experts at Munsell states that “Critical colour decisions… require careful consideration and a clear understanding of the advantages of simulated daylight technology. Daylight is evenly balanced across the visible spectrum… that means it more accurately renders colour”.

This is a view Colour Confidence has advocated for some time. As Simon Prais, Technical Director at Colour Confidence, advises, “it is important to assess images in consistent and correct viewing conditions. The colour of a print will look different from one lighting condition to another. From natural daylight to a fluorescent tube to tungsten, images can look warmer, cooler, flatter or less vibrant. Daylight (5000°k or D50) is the industry standard for viewing prints. Working near a window during daylight hours provides a good natural solution, but what happens to consistency when it gets dark?”.

Geoffrey Clements, Managing Director of Colour Confidence, comments: “At Colour Confidence we continue to identify areas of the colour management market which are currently not provided for. Controlled lighting is the ideal complement to a colour managed workflow, and can be the final piece in the jigsaw; however, traditional viewing booths can be prohibitive in terms of both cost and space for some photographers. In the GrafiLite, we believe we have developed a solution that effectively deals with these potential issues; the product offers the accurate lighting conditions photographers need, plus convenience and portability, at a highly attractive price point”.

Colour Confidence will be showcasing the GrafiLite, plus a wide range of colour management solutions, at Focus on Imaging – the UK's largest annual digital imaging exhibition – from 24-27th February, at Stand C22, Hall 9, Birmingham NEC.

Pricing and availability
GrafiLite is available direct from www.colourconfidence.com or from selected resellers and priced at £60 inc. VAT (Euro pricing €82 ex. VAT). For more information on GrafiLite, visit www.grafilite.com

Featuring a 12.2 Megapixel CMOS sensor, EOS Integrated Cleaning System, 3.0” LCD with Live View mode and a new 9-point AF system, the model presents consumers with an unprecedented level of image quality and versatility at this end of the market.

The EOS 450D employs features already proven in Canon’s professional EOS-1 series cameras, including the DIGIC III image processor and a redesigned menu system that enables features such as direct control of Speedlite flash units from the camera LCD. A choice of 13 custom functions allows the photographer to customise the camera to their shooting style.

“The EOS 450D bears the fruits of more than 20 years of ongoing investment into EOS,” said Mogens Jensen, Head of Canon Consumer Imaging, Europe. “This camera continues Canon’s policy of taking technologies proven in the professional arena and putting them within reach of a wider market of amateur photographers.”

The EOS 450D features:

  • 12.2 Megapixel CMOS sensor 1
  • Canon’s EOS Integrated Cleaning System 1
  • 3.5 frames per second
  • 3.0” LCD with Live View shooting

  • Picture Style image processing parameters
  • DIGIC III image processor

The EOS 450D 18-55mm kit is £679.99 RRP inc. VAT / € 999.99 RRP inc. VAT

Both are available from March 2008.

The EOS quality advantage

With all key components developed and manufactured in-house, EOS offers photographers a unique quality advantage. The EOS 450D’s specially designed 12.2 Megapixel sensor employs Canon’s high-sensitivity, low-noise CMOS technology to produce richly detailed images with minimal grain. The DIGIC III processor ensures superior image rendering and rapid response times, with an almost instant 0.1 start up. Image data is processed at 14 bits for Delivering a burst rate of 3.5 frames per second, the DIGIC III processor works with the image buffer to handle up to 53 JPEGs (6 in RAW) without interruption.

Built for better photos

The EOS 450D is designed to make photography a fluid experience for photographers of all levels and experience. Housed in a compact body that weighs less than 475 grams, the camera features an improved grip design that provides a natural, ergonomic fit with the user’s hands. A large, bright viewfinder makes image composition clearer and more comfortable. The menu system inherited from professional EOS cameras uses a simplified tab structure that does away with scrolling. It includes a user-defined My Menu tab for instant access to frequently used settings.

Several custom functions are available to optimise the quality of photos captured in a range of situations. Highlight Tone Priority boosts the dynamic range at the highlight end, providing better tonal detail from wedding dresses, cloudy skies and other bright objects. The new Auto Lighting Optimiser corrects brightness and contrast during image processing, while improving skin tones in portraits by ensuring correct exposure for faces. Photographers can also enable additional noise reduction for shots captured at high ISO speeds.

Live View

Available for the first time on a Canon consumer D-SLR, Live View mode makes it easier to shoot from awkward angles, such as ground-level macro shots or when shooting from a tripod. The image from the Live View mode is displayed as a smooth, 30fps video feed on the 3.0” LCD, which is 50% brighter than the screen of the EOS 400D. A grid line display and live histogram can be selected to help with shot composition and exposure. While focusing, the photographer can zoom in on specific details with up to 10x magnification of the image displayed on the LCD screen. Two types of auto focus are available: Quick AF flips the camera mirror momentarily to engage the AF sensor; Live AF uses the image contrast data to focus - a method familiar to anyone upgrading from a compact digital camera.

For studio environments, remote Live View lets the photographer compose, adjust settings and capture the shot from a PC using the supplied EOS utility software.

Other improvements

The EOS 450D complements its headline features with a host of smaller improvements that enhance the photographic experience. The viewfinder now displays all key exposure information including ISO speed. The addition of spot metering (4% of viewfinder) allows for greater control over exposure in tricky lighting conditions. PictBridge functionality has been expanded so that photographers can correct horizons and add picture effects before printing. A new high capacity battery extends shooting time on a single charge to a maximum of 500 shots.

Software

The EOS 450D is supplied with a comprehensive software suite that provides everything the photograph needs to manage and process images. This includes Digital Photo Professional (DPP), a powerful RAW converter that provides complete RAW image processing control. DPP also integrates with camera features such as Dust Delete Data and Picture Styles. The supplied Picture Style Editor software can be used to create custom Picture Styles for fine control over colour display. The camera also comes with EOS Utility, Image/Zoom Browser and Photostitch.

Velmex Distribution the No 1 Canon European LFP Distributor, launches all new range of Image PROGRAF Photographic printers

The second generation of the very popular Image ProGRAF series printers has recently been released by Canon. These printers are the next step in redefining large format printing. After the successful launch last spring of the 12 colour iPF6100, Canon was quick to launch the rest of the family.

The 17” iPF5100 like the 24” iPF6100 is packed full of features to provide the best quality, speed and management it can muster. The versatile footprint means the iPF5100 takes up little room, but doesn’t disappoint with the stunning quality and impressive speed.

The larger 44” iPF8100 and 60” iPF9100 provides advanced professional features such as automatic clogged nozzle detection and compensation for reliability, 80 GB hard drive, and 330ml or 700 ml ink tanks for versatility. A large backlite LCD panel for ease of use and ink usage tracking for accountability are all part of this new IPF range.

The 12-colour pigment ink system with LUCIA inks offers excellent colour fastness, stability and a remarkably wide colour gamut. The new ink formulation for Black, Matte Black, Gray and Photo Gray reduces bronzing while providing stronger ink adhesion. 12 colour printing offers a cost advantage, by using more colour cartridges, less mixing is required which allows for a longer cartridge life thus cutting down on the cost per print. Vivid, breathtaking, long-lasting prints are achieved by combining these advances in technology.

The image PROGRAF series is designed for reliability, simplicity, productivity and above all quality.

Visit the imagePROGRAF range on the Velmex Distribution stand No S1 and see for yourself the quality, speed and cost savings you could achieve.

huey and PhotoTune – the convenient way to accurate colour
28/1/08
Birmingham, UK, 23th January 2008 – Leading colour management specialist Colour Confidence has today announced the launch of a new monitor calibration and colour correction software package, the PANTONE huey and PhotoTune Bundle. Retailing at just £77/€115 ex. VAT, the bundle combines the bestselling huey monitor calibrator with OnOne’s PhotoTune – an Adobe Photoshop and Elements plug-in, designed specifically for photographers, creating an excellent value and user-friendly solution.

Utilising patented ColorTune technology, PhotoTune software simplifies the time-consuming process of colour correction, offering accurate colour in as little as 15 seconds. A six-step Color Wizard presents the user with a choice of two corrected images at each stage of the correction process; the user simply picks the image they are happiest with until a final, most accurate image is reached. Another key feature of the software is SkinTune technology, designed to allow intricate adjustments within a small range of colours; skin tones representing less than 1% of all available colours according to PhotoTune analysis.

“The PANTONE huey and PhotoTune Bundle has been created with accuracy and usability very much in mind”, comments Geoffrey Clements, Managing Director of Colour Confidence. “The combination of the two products makes perfect sense; any image adjustments, no matter how carefully made, can be rendered useless if you are working with an uncalibrated monitor. The huey delivers accurate on-screen colour in as little as three minutes, so combining this with the time-saving features of PhotoTune is an excellent way for photographers to maximise their productivity, without compromising on the quality or accuracy of their work”.

Colour Confidence will be showcasing the PANTONE huey and PhotoTune Bundle at Focus on Imaging, Europe’s largest annual digital imaging show, at the Birmingham NEC from 24th – 27th February. The event is an ideal opportunity for photographers from amateur to professional to see demonstrations of key solutions and get face-to-face colour management advice from the company’s colour experts. For more information see www.focus-on-imaging.co.uk.

Pricing and availability
The PANTONE huey and PhotoTune Bundle is available from www.colourconfidence.com and selected resellers, priced at £77 ex VAT / £90 inc. VAT (Euro pricing €115 ex. VAT)

Graphistudio - Five years on and still growing ……
28/1/08

An evolution as well as a revolution has been quietly occurring in the Italian town of Arba. Nestled at the foothills of the Dolomites in arguably the best wine growing region of Italy (Friuli) and close to, (as they will vociferously argue), the very best place for Prosciutto Crudo (San Daniele), Graphistudio have become one the major employers in the area.

It has been five years since Graphistudio first entered the UK & Irish market place. Already dominating their home sector, the company had a great belief in its services to photographers, yet they knew they would need to both adapt and change in response to the unique demands that the British and Irish market places would place on their business.

Last year saw a challenging time as the company doubled the size of its newly built headquarters, a purpose built centre that would give even more space for new developments in printing and binding but also a cool and calm atmosphere to stimulate great creativity. The result of this move is already taking effect, new designs, covers, procedures, printing techniques and new patent applied binding machinery developed in house, are continuing to put the companies books and services at the forefront of development.

Each book is treated as an individual project and great pride and care are taken to meet the photographer’s needs, the company’s business is to provide a complete bespoke one-off bookmaking. Working with negatives, prints or digital files, they have a solution to meet almost every requirement. They offer a one stop shop that can include scanning, colour correction, photo editing, design, error correction and printing in both digital offset on various art papers / boards as well as digital laser using silk and metal photographic papers. With their own patented binding systems books can be ordered in sizes from 10cm x 10cm through to 40cm x 50cm and bigger, with duplicates of the main book order available at a fraction of the cost.

The Wedding Book, The Portrait Book and The Family Book and further bespoke projects such as commercial / models portfolios, corporate event books, party books etc are all quoted on an individual basis. The opportunities that their services can create are limited only by your own imagination, so they are sure that these services and products can be a springboard to help your business develop.

The company’s list of customers now includes many of the UK top earners. Clients range from those who want to just have everything collected and leave it all to us, to others who want to have creative control to bring their own design skills to the flavour of the books. With a little effort and understanding the process of creating a masterpiece becomes easier with every order. With books made for the MPA, Crufts, amongst many others including several well known soccer clubs, TV and film personalities and major corporations, the solutions that the company offers can not only expand your business by both increasing the value of your wedding orders or other photographic projects but also enabling those “if only I could” ideas to become a reality.

The company always quotes 6-8 weeks for production time but when all things go well this lead-time is often superseded. The company claim that the average production time for books is actually 22 days. Bearing in mind that most delays often occur outside the company’s control, (for example if the photographer or their client is slow to approve the PDF preview produced before printing and includes all the processes mentioned above) this is quite an achievement.

As well as new sizes, a new binding system, new designs, new covers, new papers - they have now perfected a brand new fool proof simple ordering soft ware systems. Also to help photographers with the display of their work Graphistudio have created contemporary perspex Studio Display Stands for them.

Jeremy Price, Sales and Marketing Director for Graphistudio in the UK says,

“As we are the only company using both digital laser and off set printing technology it has enabled us to explore new opportunities for photographers. The result is many new products for 2008. Looking modern and smart, the new size works really well with the selection of new covers - including a variety of embossed leathers, with metallic as well as new synthetic options. Additionally we are expanding our choice of papers and launching a new slim-binding format which can be combined with innovative design styles so that customers can personalise their book”.

Portable Studio Flash kit for under £400 from Kenro
22/1/08

For digital photographers who aspire to shoot studio pictures like a true professional, Focus on Imaging exhibitor Kenro has put together a portable flash kit that won't break the bank!

Comprising two powerful 300w mains or battery operated flash heads, lighting stands and umbrellas, the Kenro Compact 300 Flash kit is the ideal solution for any photographer looking for quality, durability and flexibility in a portable studio lighting kit.

With a suggested retail price of £395 excluding VAT, the kit even comes complete with its own carry cases.

Features include power control range of 6 f-stops, from 1-32 to full power plus dual power input, so the units can either be mains operated or work from an optional rechargeable Battery Pack. This provides a highly flexible solution to shoot outdoors or in areas where there is limited mains supply.

The ultra-compact flash heads are a new 'flat' concept of design and can be triggered by a synch cord, radio or infra-red device, giving them the flexibility of many high-end professional units.

In addition, the 'daylight' LED modelling lamp is dimmed according to the proportion of the flash power selected, so that you'll be able to see the kind of effect the flash will give; very useful when visually assessing the lighting ratios when multiple light sources are used.

The heads have a very usable Guide number of 22m (ISO100), recycling time 1.2 secs on full power, and the three section stands extend to a maximum of 244 cm.

The D701 - A compact, high-performance dry minilab that provides an excellent printing solution for a wide range of business locations.

Noritsu is pleased to announce the UK launch of the D701, a more environment-friendly compact dry minilab that, as a pioneer for new dry minilab solutions, is the ideal product for progressive printing businesses and represents excellent value for money, with a tiny footprint of less than half a square metre.

The D701 is a compact inkjet minilab that does not use any photofinishing chemicals, which means it is easy to install in just about any type of location, is easy to perform maintenance for, and is friendlier to the environment. This space-saving printer opens the door for those who were previously unable to install silver halide minilabs due to issues such as limited installation space and chemical handling.

The D701 uses a 6-gradation per-dot dye inkjet system with precise dot control to produce vivid prints with a smooth portrayal of a wide range of colours. This excellent colour quality ensures that customers receive top quality prints and with colourfastness of 96 years*, customers can expect their prints to last for many generations to come.

This dinky little printer is one to be taken seriously as it delivers quite a punch with its high quality prints in sizes up to 254 x 914mm (10 x 36”). With an impressive 650 (152 x 102mm/6 x 4”) prints per hour, it can be used for low or mid volume print services or as a supplementary printer for retail outlets with QSS minilabs installed. By connecting operation software and consumer terminals to the D701, you can obtain the same functionality and easily provide the same services as QSS systems.

The D701 will be proudly displayed at the 2008 Focus-on-Imaging Exhibition,

Birmingham NEC, 24-27 February.

Noritsu D701 Features

Compact design

The footprint of the D701 is a mere 0.43 square metres (including the RIP PC). The RIP PC can also be separated from the printer, in which case the footprint of the printer is only 0.35 square metres. Furthermore, if the optional Double Stack Cabinet is used, you can install two printers in the footprint of one, doubling your output without using extra floor space.

Prints up to 254 x 914mm (10 x 36”)*

This printer can produce photos in sizes ranging from 127 x 89mm (5 x 3.5”) all the way up to 254 x 914mm (10 x 36”), enabling a wide variety of print services.

* A paper width of 203mm or 254mm is required for prints with an advance length that exceeds 457mm. The maximum advance length for print widths of 127mm and 152mm is 457mm.

A capacity of approximately 650 prints per hour for the 152 x 102mm (6 x 4”) print size

In addition to its high capacity for 152 x 102mm (6 x 4”), the D701 also provides a capacity of approximately 250 prints per hour for 203 x 254mm (8 x 10”) prints and approximately 195 prints per hour for 254 x 305mm (10 x 12”) prints. This high capacity across the board makes the D701 a suitable solution for low to mid volume shops.

No Chemical Waste

The D701 does not use any chemicals, nor does it produce any waste solution. The absence of chemicals makes it user-friendly, as it can be installed almost anywhere and is easy to provide maintenance for.

Newly developed inkjet system - 4 colours, 6 gradations per dot*

This new dry printer employs a 4 colour dye ink system with 6 gradations per dot to produce vivid colours, and it also uses a new technology that adjusts the size of the dots when they are ejected onto the paper. This enables the individual dots to be output in 5 different sizes, which allows for a range of 6 gradations per dot including the no dot (white) variation. The result is high quality prints with fine details.

*Inkjet technology was provided by Seiko Epson Corporation.

Long lasting colours

Prints made with previously conventional dye ink tended to fade quickly, but the new ink used in the D701 has an improved molecular structure so it is able to withstand light and ozone, thus producing prints that boast excellent image performance of up to 96 years*

Print sorter unit (Option)

The print sorter unit, which holds up to 8 orders, enhances workflow efficiency, speeding up customer order deliveries.

Supports both roll and sheet paper

In addition to roll paper, the D701 also supports sheet paper ranging in size from 127 x 200 mm to 216 x 297mm. When setting both roll paper and sheet paper, it is possible to automatically switch between output from these two paper types, eliminating any delay in job processing and workflow.

The following features are also available with Noritsu Koki’s QSS minilabs. These features expand the possibilities of the D701 and enable its users to print with the same operations as QSS minilabs.

Operation software "EZ Controller" (sold separately)

The EZ Controller gives you the ability to easily perform many important functions such as PJP, order management, and value-added print creation.

"AccuSmart™" image processing technology employed

Noritsu’s AccuSmart™ technology enables you to easily portray the natural beauty of the scene as viewed by the photographer when the picture is taken. This advanced technology not only provides superb quality for well photographed images, it also applies appropriate correction to less-than-perfect shots, resulting in extremely high quality prints regardless of the image source.

A choice of film scanners to choose from (film scanners sold separately)

The HS-1800 supports a wide variety of film including 120, and the LS-1100 support only 135 and IX240 film. You can also choose not to add a scanner, and instead use the D701 as a stand-alone printer.

An array of options

The D701 supports a wide range of media input as well as the MD-2 Unit, QSS-Kids, Bravo II/Rimage CD writers, DVD writing and many other options to provide a scalable system that allows you to add new services as needed.
